If you’re an Android user, you may have come across the term “APK” at some point. APK stands for Android Package Kit, and it’s the format of the files used to install apps on Android devices.
Typically, you can download APK files from Google Play Store or other trusted sources. However, there may be times when you want to install an app using an APK file from an unknown source. Here’s how to do it safely.
Step 1: Enable Unknown Sources
Before you can install an APK file from outside the Play Store, you need to enable “Unknown Sources” in your device settings. This is a security feature that prevents malicious apps from being installed on your device without your knowledge.
To enable Unknown Sources, go to your device Settings and select “Security”. Then scroll down until you see “Unknown Sources” and toggle it on.
Note: Keep in mind that enabling this option makes your device more vulnerable to security threats. Only download and install APK files from trusted sources.
Step 2: Download the APK File
Once you’ve enabled Unknown Sources, you can download the APK file of the app you want to install from a trusted source. Make sure that the source is reliable and safe before downloading any file onto your device.
Step 3: Install the APK File
After downloading the APK file onto your device, navigate to where it was saved (usually in your Downloads folder). Tap on the file to begin installation.
The system will prompt you with a warning message informing that installing applications from unknown sources can harm your device. If you have downloaded an APK file from a trustworthy source then tap on “Install” button.
You can also use a third-party app store like Aptoide or F-Droid which host apps uploaded by developers who are not affiliated with Google Play Store. These stores have their own ways of verifying the safety of apps they host.
By enabling “Unknown Sources” in your device settings, you can install apps from outside the Play Store using APK files. However, it is important to download APK files only from reliable sources and keep your device safe from security threats.
